Born in Cardiff, Welsh violinist Rhys Watkins currently enjoys touring the world as a member of the London Symphony Orchestra. Rhys graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2005, by which time he was a member of the award winning Artea string quartet. Recipients of both the Tillet Trust Young Artists' Platform and the Philharmonia/Martin Musical Scholarship Total Ensemble Award, the Artea quartet have performed at major festivals throughout the UK, aswell as at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Conway Hall, on BBC Radio 3 and at the BBC Proms. Rhys has been a finalist and prize winner in several international competitions, including the Jeunesses Musicales International Violin Competition (Belgrade) and the Paganini International Violin Competition (Moscow).  Rhys currently plays on a violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, kindly on loan to him by the London Symphony Orchestra.
