Originally from Neath, Gwenllian was appointed sub co-leader of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in 2009. Gwenllian studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Stephanie Gonley and Ofer Falk and gained a distinction in Master of Music. As a baroque violinist, Gwenllian has been fortunate to share a platform as a soloist with Rachel Podger and performs frequently with the Purcell Orchestra and St. James Baroque Orchestra. In addition to performing, Gwenllian is also a violin tutor for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. She has been a member of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for six years. As one of the six BBC Performing Groups the Orchestra has a busy schedule of recordings, broadcasts and concerts, for BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC television. The Orchestra can also be heard on a number of BBC programmes, providing the music for the BBC Natural History Unit’s Hidden Kingdoms, BBC Cymru Wales’s Atlantis and of course as the Doctor Who orchestra.
